motion sickness sitting still

Went to watch the Bourne Supremacy last night. Good movie from what I heard of it. I had forgotten that I have hit the age where I can get motion sickness sitting still from watching anything jittery or fast focused, like most action movies nowadays. You know the ones that do closeups from far away so everything is just blurry to give the affect that everything is moving so fast even though the action is really slow, like in the fight scenes. Thank you MTV and Blair Witch Project.

My mother is like this. I didn't understand it before. As I've gotten older, I've come to understand what she's talking about. Watching Bourne Supremacy was excruciating. I spent most of the time in the theater with my hands over my eyes. Motion sickness which leads to a bit of claustrophobia. I'm sure I could have watched the movie on TV, but on the big screen I'm overwhelmed by the amount of information. Same feeling I got from watching "Requiem for a Dream."

It's as if I can't stop the information from coming in and suddenly all my senses go overboard. The smell of popcorn making me naseus, light sensitivity, heaing sensitivity. I felt like that guy on an episode of Star Trek Next Generation. The Betazed who was overly sensitive and could hear the thoughts of everybody at one time.

I can watch movies like Kill Bill where the camera lingers on the slightest details, that pans wide to allow you the full view. I can watch movies like Barbershop that spend most of their time in conversation.

Sorry Bourne, going to have to save my $9 for some other movie like "Harold and Kumar go to White Castle."
