grad school and blogs

Oh how I enjoy reading blogs of people in grad school. I swear, I do! Perhaps it's similar to the reality TV fascination. You just have to keep reading to see how it ends up.

At one point in my life, I was going to go to grad school, but life turned me in a different direction. After banging my head against the grad school door a couple of years, a friend wisely commented, "if you really wanted to go to grad school, you'd be there by now." (ie if you really wanted it, you would have found a way to get there). Thus I realized that my heart was not really in going to grad school and if you're heart ain't in it, well, you ain't gonna get through it, so why blow $100K?

Perhaps one day I'll find the heart and desire to go, but that day is not today. Which is why I enjoy reading grad student's blogs, and do sincerely cheer them on as they battle through their research, advisory boards, and finally through their thesis. It's not an easy thing to do and at times is a test of serious endurance and political savvy.

Which brings us to Sister Mary Thesis, who has decided to blog about the progress of her dissertation, as a public peer pressure to be (ph)inishe(d). In one sense, I'm looking forward to the blog, then again, I wonder too that when the Sister is writing on the blog, doesn't it take away from writing the thesis?

oh well, to all you grad students out there, know that there's at least one cheerleader here in the stands for you.

go, go, go! write, write, write!
