why the french are good kissers

Decided to take French 1a at community college, just to familiarize myself with France as we have plans on heading there this year. I've taken a year of German, 3 years of high school Spanish, and numerous years of Tagalog. Only Tagalog I got to a point that I could functionally get myself around the country and as my aunt says, "I won't be sold" (I forget what the phrase is in Tagalog).

Anyway, it's facinating feeling a language in one's mouth. How German is harsh and back of the throat, how Tagalog is bouncy and keeps your mouth open to get all the vowels through, how Spanish is more middle of the mouth not too much in the back, not too much in the front. French on the other hand is all about the lips. Speaking the language keeps your mouth in a constant pucker so much so, my lips were a bit sore and haven't felt this sore since I started playing clarinet in the 4th grade. (Did I mention wind instrumentalists have great tongues and strong fingers? All of that ta-ta-ta)

What I like about the teacher is that she speaks French full speed with all the dropping of end consonants so you really have to tune your ear. French barely sounds like what is written unlike most of the other languages I've taken.

I find it much easier learning languages now than in the past. Mostly because I don't really care about grades anymore, so I can really just let myself be. And if there's anything I learned about learning languages, the most important thing is to let yourself be the language without thought or translation or worry. It's the experience of the language that makes you better and it's hard to simply get that when you think too hard.

Ever wonder what kind of accent you have when you speak in another language?
