curfew in the Philippines
A couple of interesting posts regarding the current protests and taking over the Peninsula Hotel in Manila. As with much of Philippine politics, there is much more to this behind the scenes as this is not a protest of the masses such as the various EDSAs. Folks who live in the Philippines and follow the folly of politics there have trained themselves by necessity to ask beyond what is shown on TV or the official quotes from the government agencies. For example, Filipinos are used to the idea of police and military staging "kidnappings" that according to police and/or military are done by some extremist group, yet in the end they receive some kickback from it.
