the stacks
Jean writes of the Stacks, as the old section of Doe Library was fondly called. The Stacks were like a huge maze out of some adventure journey game where your goal was to seek out this book treasure. Often there were random small desks with a single light where you might find a student snoozing...er..studying. I often wondered how they made sure every person was out of the building, considering all the nooks and crannies the place had and wondered if there were people who were like the trolls of the library living and hiding amongst the stacks.
The woman who was killed, that Jean mentions, was Grace Asuncion. There is now a scholarship in her name provided by the Pilipino American Alumni Chapter that they will be awarding for the first time this year.
Stopping by that website I noticed this event for November 6:
Elaine Villamin (class of 1996) will conduct a wine tasting event featuring Filipino American-owned vineyards and labels. This event is open to PAAC members the CAA, the Berkeley Community, and the extended Filipino American community.
I will have to put that on the calendar. Can't miss a winetasting event.
