After going to a Chinese buffet for my cousin's kid's baptism and making little kids cry, we went to the other side of the bay to visit the twins, plus the Fiance's brother was in town. The twins are still in neonatal care. The doctor is waiting for one of them to gain a bit more weight and for both of them to be a bit more eager about eating. Right now they'd rather sleep. They are maintaining their core body temperature well. Might be another week or so.
To access the room you must ring the doorbell. There are no handles on the door on the outside. There are numerous people in the ward at all times and a sign "Quiet babies growing" hangs on the outside. There are different stages of preemie babies here. The Twins are probably the most stable out of the bunch. They are now properly named and share a crib. Catherine, currently the smaller of the two, was being fed by one of the nurses trying to get her to eat a bit more, back massage, pressing of the cheeks to encourage the sucking reaction. She managed to down 30ccs (cubic centimeters) of milk.
Mom and dad asked both of us if we wanted to hold the twins. The Fiance said he'd pass and wait til they were a bit bigger, like 4 years bigger. I said yes because holding babies at this age is easy. They sleep, rarely squirm, and are relatively light in weight. Since it's neonatal, I had to go to the corner sink and scrub my arms up to the shoulders with soap and water with the slightly stinging hot water coming from the sink.
Veronica is the heavier of the two. The one kicking Catherine out of the womb. She likes to squirm and sometimes becomes nagulat/surprised by noises in the room, then goes back to sleep. Catherine, who the Fiance calls Tiny, is not that tiny considering. I'm sure she'll easily catch up to her sister. She's the smiley one. The one who smiles when Daddy calls her name. It's nice to know that one our basic baby instincts is to smile. I held each of them til they fell asleep again for another 3 hours before their next feeding. Growing is tiring stuff. They are both long and lean with the finest of eyelashes. Can't quite tell who they look like yet or if they look alot alike each other. Babies this young all look small and a bit wrinkly. We placed the twins back into the crib, electrodes monitoring their heart and breathing rates, made sure their hats and headbands were in place.
ssshhh...the babies are growing.
